There are more variants

The exhibition in the Municipal Picture Gallery connects 19th century portraiture represented in the collection of the Litomyšl Municipal Gallery with the works of contemporary artists.

The exhibition Variants are More in Litomyšl connects 19th century portraiture with contemporary art. It is the central show of the Smetana Art Festival Litomyšl.

The exhibition connects 19th century portrait paintings from the collection of the Litomyšl Municipal Gallery with contemporary approaches to depicting the face. Within modern portraiture, many of the functions of traditional portraiture have naturally given way to formal and interpretive experiments and the freedom to authentically express one’s own artistic identity. The work of Kateřina Šedá, Krištof Kintera, Natalie Perkof, Alžběta Skálová, Jana Farmanová and Milena Dopitová offers the opportunity to explore the current transformations of a genre that has not abandoned its original potential to capture the human mood, but at the same time does not hesitate to cross the boundaries from the realistic capture of the individual to the conceptual collective or directly anonymous portrait.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on Sunday 14 June at 10:30 in the Municipal Picture Gallery on the second floor of the Litomyšl Chateau.
