NATURA

The Natura exhibition presents original collections of jewellery by students of the Jewellery Design Studio of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, created on the basis of a commission from the Litomyšl Municipal Gallery. The theme of this year’s Smetana Litomyšl festival is not grasped here in a unified way, but as an open space for personal interpretation, material experimentation and the search for the relationship between man, nature and jewellery.

NATURE AS A STARTING POINT

The Natura exhibition presents collections of jewellery designed by students of the Jewellery Design Studio of the Tomas Bata University in Zlín on the basis of a commission from the Litomyšl Municipal Gallery. The theme of nature is developed by the individual authors through their own experience and sensitivity. Their collections reflect not only the multilayered nature of this concept, but also the formal and material diversity of contemporary jewellery.
In the context of the exhibition, nature is understood as a space in which nature, naturalness and human nature are interconnected. It refers to nature as a set of phenomena that are not the result of human intervention – to plants, animals and materials in their original form. Here, jewellery does not merely act as an imitation of these, but as a medium that emerges from this material and carries within it the memory of its origins and transformations.

FORM, MATERIAL, BODY

Another level of the interpretation of the theme of natura refers to nature, understood as a set of basic properties that shape the form of jewellery. Form, light, material and relationship to the body play an important role here. The form determines the character of the jewellery, the light transforms its perception, the material carries a physical and symbolic level and the body gives it scale and meaning.

JEWELLERY AS A PERSONAL STATEMENT

In the relationship between material, form and body, nature also opens up as a manifestation of human nature. Jewellery thus ceases to be a mere object. It becomes a carrier of emotions, memories and personal meanings, giving form to experiences that cannot easily be expressed in words.
